7-Map Competitive Pool

VALORANT maintains exactly 7 maps in competitive rotation at all times. This system was established in Episode 5 (June 2022) when Pearl became the 8th map, creating the need for strategic map management.

The 7-map limit provides the perfect balance between variety and mastery, preventing players from becoming overwhelmed while ensuring enough strategic depth for professional tournaments.

Rotation System

Starting from Season 2025, map rotations occur every Act instead of every Episode. This faster rotation keeps the meta fresh and allows recently reworked maps to return sooner.

Maps are rotated based on player feedback, time since last appearance, planned updates, and strategic variety to maintain competitive balance across all skill levels.

Map Selection Technology

VALORANT uses a deterministic map selection system that prevents streaks by always choosing the map the 10 players have seen least recently. Any map played twice in a player's last 5 games is removed from selection.

This system has virtually eliminated map streaks - before implementation, 72% of players experienced consecutive map repeats.

Tournament Impact

The 7-map pool perfectly accommodates professional formats, allowing balanced map bans in Best-of-3 and Best-of-5 series without map repeats.

This creates fair competition where teams must master the current pool rather than having expertise spread across too many battlefields.
